Who We Are

Gospel Church Bayfield is a community of worshipers on mission to share the gospel with everyone we meet

The Gospel:

At Gospel Church, we agree with 1 Corinthians 1:31 that our only boast is in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His saving work on the cross.  We do not boast in good teaching or in any certain program or ministry, we place all of our hope for this world and the salvation of those whom God has chosen in the gospel of Jesus Christ.  That God the Son descended to this earth, was born of a virgin, lived a life of perfection, and was the atoning sacrifice on the cross for the sins of the elect.  Three days later He was risen from the dead and defeated death itself so that one day all who believe may be united with Christ in Heaven (Colossians 2:8-15; Ephesians 2:1-10; 1 Corinthians 15:3-5)

We believe that expository preaching is the most effective way to teach God’s word and the gospel that is contained within.  This enables the elders to teach the whole counsel of God and all the intricacies of the truth contained in scripture, even those that might be offensive to our culture. We will never shy away from teaching the truth and we will always do so in love (Ephesians 4:15)

Community:

At Gospel Church, we believe that for eternity past and eternity future God has and will always exist in a perfect triune community as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Genesis tells us that we were created in God’s image and part of that image is an innate desire and necessity for community with other Christians.  We believe it is vital to the Christian life that each person who belongs to Christ also belong to a local church to be encouraged, challenged, and even corrected with love when the need arises.  The bible tells us to not forsake the gathering of ourselves together (Hebrews 10:25) and we affirm this teaching and encourage all Christians to be involved deeply with a local church.

We also believe that scripture clearly teaches that each local congregation elect the offices of elder and deacon as part of the leadership of the church.  Scripture teaches that the elders are to be tested and approved by the congregation and are then the representatives of that congregation in all decisions pertaining to the life of that local and autonomous church community.  We strongly believe the church is to be a part of the conversation on all major decisions within the church, but the final decisions lies solely with the elders of the church.  Scripture also tells us that the job of the deacon is to be a minister of the physical needs of the church and is called and tested by the church for this task.

Worship:

At Gospel Church, we believe that worship should be a celebratory and joyous time where we can sing praises to the Lord, pray together, read Scripture, and hear teaching from the Bible, all by the leading of the Holy Spirit.  We take the gifts of the Spirit very seriously and use scripture as our guide for how and when those gifts can be shared during our corporate worship (1 Corinthians 14:26-40).

We also believe that worship is more than just what we do when we meet each Sunday as a group, but that it is what we do each and every moment of every day.  Worship happens at work, at home with your family, and in the whole church community each week and it is our act of giving God glory for every blessing he has bestowed upon us, even on days when we feel less than blessed.

Mission:

At Gospel Church, we believe the mission of the church is very straightforward and simple: to spread the gospel to all the peoples of the earth.  This means planting churches in Africa and Asia as well as starting bible studies with our neighbors and co-workers.  This means that wherever God has placed us and all the people that he has surrounded us with are our mission.  We are called to share the gospel and make disciples of the nations and our mission is to do just that.

This means that our prayers and resources will be focused on those in our world who do not know the gospel.  We want to plant new churches in the four corners as well as support missionaries across the globe.  We want to raise up people who are willing to go anywhere that God leads them in order to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ with the world

We are a southern baptist church and are partially funded by the SBC
